Throw me that Raccoon

Yay for Austin weekend! I ended up getting done with class at 11, met with my group for an hour, and hit the road. I started a new medication this week, and I guess it makes me drowsy (or doesn't stop the drowsiness?). I thought I'd never get in town! Luckily I made it, and got to meet up with Mere for a few minutes before she disappeared for the weekend. I finally got to watch Nick and Norah - I read the book over the summer but missed the movie when it was out in theaters. I didn't think it was that bad (Lindsey was not a fan). Sure, it changed from the book a lot, but I still thought it was good-ish. I guess Michael Cera is going to play the same character in every movie. He was OK, but when I read N&NIP, I pictured Nick to be more like Jim Sturgess. Meh - still ok!

Instincts

So the other day I came home from class, I had this really weird feeling - like someone had been in my apartment. Nothing looked askew, but I grabbed my phone and crept around anyway to make sure - I checked the closet, the bathroom, behind the shower curtain - nothing. Ok, I'm imagining things. Then I was talking to my sister and she said, "By the way, I 'broke into' your apartment to steal some cake". Hmmmm!! So weird. Anyway, aparently my instincts are in tact :)

Ok, now it's just getting old

That's right - for the 5th time this year, we won trivia! This week was terrible, too - everyone was doing awful and the names weren't funny. Guess we pulled through in the end, though!

The story of my life

I've been staring at this toilet paper holder at school since June, and I FINALLY remembered to take a picture. The top says, "Install with this side down". Genius! I wonder if any of my fellow classmates have noticed. Also, this is in what I refer to as "the haunted bathroom". Nobody has ever said anything about it being haunted, but...notbody is ever in there and it always creeps me out for no apparent reason.

Oh wait, I forgot to write my answers on the scantron

Good Monday, everyone! You know it's going to be a bad week when first thing out there's a quiz. So the prof distributes the quizzes and a scantron, and slowly but surely we all turn them in, and she starts going over the answers. But before that she mentions that one of the answer choices was a b a or b, which...hmm... so I put "a" but I really meant "c" but I just saw the letter and went with it, but she let us change to the right answer. So on said quiz, there was a matching section, followed by a question, and then another matching section. When we got to the second part, one girl said, "OH NO!! I can't believe I did that! I used the answer choices from the first part for the second part, too!" Oops. That must have been a challenge since it didn't really make sense, but luckily she didn't miss any...or she missed all of them and got lucky, depending on how you look at it. THEN we move on to the BACK of the quiz, and another person says, "Oh no! I didn't look at the back!" So she missed the entire back page. Yay, Monday morning! Yay Grad school!

I am 99% sure that that is not the real Ben Franklin

Today was one of those wasted days - I was so tired all day I just didn't feel like doing anything. So I did the bare minimum of homework I need to do to stay above the water, and barely got dressed. Also, Jenn left a tres leches cake from the party here, so...evil evil cake is going to school tomorrow. Mark and I went for a walk (AH! Natural light!!)hence the picture of ducks. Oh, AND I saw a duck trying to mount another duck - either to reproduce or because he was a jerk. Or maybe it was both. Yes, I lead a very exciting life!

His lateral epicondyles are the shit

Ah...wine party. Good times! Sadly, I did not take any pictures, which most people are probably grateful for. I guess I went a little too fast and furious, because I ended up pretty intoxicated by the end of the evening. At one point we were all talking, and someone said something and everyone laughed, but then I laughed really hard and forgot why I was laughing and said, "I don't know why we're laughing!", Which got everyone going again. And then there's Mark with his, "I'm going to go Chris Brown on your ass!" comment. It was a lot of fun. Hopefully we can do it again sometime - Janna and Paul have a giant TV and Rockband, too - so maybe crazy RockBand/wine party thing sometime. Also - I had a little headache this morning, so perhaps I had a hangover? I've never had one (knock on wood) but maybe that was a mini. Good think I graduate in a little over a year and 1/2. Otherwise, alcoholism might be a concern.

Happy Noms!

I had class at 8 (bleh) and then Behavior Innovations right after that in Irving today. Luckily, for class 1) we had Ms Lundgren who is really cool and 2) Courtney Kennedy brought DELICIOUS homemade cinnamon rolls, so that was a great motivator! But yesterday was still awesome, because...I got to go to Baja Fresh! NOM!!!!! There is only 1 left anywhere near me, and it just happens to be on the way from Behavior Innovations - so I had to stop in. I had my usual (chips and queso with tons of salsa verde and a baja chicken taco with mild sauce and tons of salsa verde), and I couldn't resist, so I got two more tacos to go - and the guy for some reason asked if they were for me, or someone else. So I went into my explaination that I never get BF because there are none near me, blah blah blah. Anyway, now I know if I have a mad craving I can drive 15 miles West and get it. Not that I ever will.
Went to Gloria's with Mark's parents, and I ended up getting some cool stuff from them - woohoo. Now I have leftovers galore!

Wait, what was I doing again?

ADD strikes again! I was finally going to look up these reflexes I am supposed to know for tomorrow morning on you tube, and...hmm..what's this? Recommended clips? So somehow I end up on "I'm F*ing Matt Damon" and then "I'm F*ing Ben Affleck" - I haven't laughed that hard at something by myself in a long time - the best part was Josh Groban. Or possibly Brad Pitt delivering the congratulatory cake. Anyway...um...yeah, ADD FTW.

Poodles! This is Tuesday's blog!

I screwed up and posted Wednesday's before Tuesdays. Meh - Whatever! Tuesday I had class, and got to be a guinea pig for Dr Neville while she showed the MMT and Goniometry. You would think this would make me better at it...but I still need a lot of practice :) Then I went to fieldwork and it was awesome AGAIN - I am just so excited to be there and hopefully she'll reassess one of the kiddos soon so I can see how much improvement has happened. Then Mom made dinner for me and it was good - like low carb spinach lasagna. Then I met Anna at Starbucks to finish up our power point and I was so flipping tired I thought I might fall asleep there, but I managed to make it home AND read the article for Quant today - I am what ze French say le awesome.

She works minimally hard for the money

Today was my first day at work - yay! I got there at 9 and left around 11:30 (there wasn't much to do), but hey, it's money! I did some filing (I had to ask how to "open" this one type of file - but once I got it, it was cool!), some folder making, and some copying. Woohoo, I'm a work machine. Then I had a presentation in Peds, and I think it went OK, although I know I talk really fast. Plus, we thought it would be funny if our case study was named Ricky Bobby, he had tactile defensiveness (I'm on fire!), and liked cars. Turns out, nobody really laughed or anything. Meh. I did a dorky demo of some of the therapies we could use, though, and people seemed to like that. Hopefully Anna and I got a good grade - now we can just sit back and chill for the rest of the semester. No trivia tonight - we don't want to make a bunch of enemies - we can't help that we're awesome! But I am so crazy tired, I just wanted to lounge around and do nothing - LOVE!!

Jazz Hands!

Today my classmate pointed out that our teacher pretty much always has jazz hands - and she's right.
I'm surprised at how bad I feel sometimes when I wake up in the morning. Like this morning - I did not get off to a good start, though I don't have a great reason why. Perhaps it was my own ineptness at searching, or...I dunno. By the time I got to Scholarly I was off the charts. Of course, I usually do a pretty good job covering it up. I guess I just keep getting nudged and eventually one pushes me over the edge - meh? Usually I'm pretty even natured, so I hope this is just a crazy school thing and not a permanent change. I felt better this afternoon, though, because we got to play in these really cool (and really expensive) wheelchairs. Let's hope tomorrow is better - wine party this weekend! Yay!

A hitchhiker in a Jason mask AND it's Friday the 13th? How can I lose?

Yes, I did see a hitchhiker in a Jason mask on my way to Austin on Friday. Awesome. Also, on my way home I stopped at Starbucks (like usual) so I would not fall asleep driving (like usual), and I saw this gem on the door of the bathroom.
1) Handel is a composer and 2) said composer is long dead, so likely not broken
3) Why would this make me impatient? The bathroom still worked. Also, glad you "Appieciate" it.
Also Note the Random Capitalization on the Sign.

Another reason why I seriously don't want to send my kids to public school...in Temple.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I got to sleep in today - yay! Then I went to yoga, and afterwards pretty much lounged around the house all day with Mark. He made me dinner (Mahi Mahi, green beans, corn on the cob and apple dumplings) and we watched High Fidelity - a good day! Unfortunately tomorrow is killer school day... gross - when is Spring Break?

I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party.

Why oh why did I do this to myself?

I thought I was helping my later self out by signing up to do everything I could early in the semester to get it out of the way. Last semester the first few weeks were slower, and things got crazy after midterms. So I thought, hey, I'll get ahead and do things early. The problem is that this semester is NOT last semester, and I'm already overloaded. But, there's no turning back now! After class I did not one but two assessments - the ETCH on my adorable cousin Sarah, and the SAFER on Mark's grandma. After I finished the ETCH, Christina, my other cousin, treated Jenn and me to makeovers, complete with turquoise eye shadow and purple lipstick. Gorgeous!
It was a busy week, for sure. Next week probably won't be any better, but...I'm sure my future self will thank my past self at some point.

TToA FTW!

We won again - that's right: 2 weeks in a row; 4 times in 2009. This time we won by 5 and 1/2 points, which is still kind of a blow out. For some reason tonight the restaurant was really crowded again - so this victory was even better. Also, there was a wing-off for 2nd, so we just got to watch the entertainment.

I also have a public service announcement: Boys - it's ok to wear pink. Usually a light pink (or crazy hot pink if you insist) polo works - long sleeve dress shirt is ok, too. HOWEVER, it is NOT ok to wear a mauve cableknit sweater with puff sleeves. I can see how maybe you thought you would be hip and start a trend, but wearing a woman's sweater is not the way to do it. It will never happen.

I don't care if there's a tornado - get back to my show!

We're having some bad weather tonight - as in, several cities are having tornado warnings, but they'll only forecast the weather when it's a commercial break. I used to think this was really funny when I would visit Jenn in Galveston and the Houston stations would preface their interruptions with "Taking time from the commercial break so you don't miss your show..." because apparently so many people complained. Not so funny now that it's moved to Dallas!
Today I had my first trip to fieldwork - Comprehensive Therapy Services in Richardson. It was great - it's a clinic with tons of cool toys and supplies, and I can already tell I'm going to learn a lot from Justine. I'm really excited -this is why I came to school! I'm getting slammed this week in classes - hopefully by scheduling stuff early in the semester I'll have a little more wiggle room later on. We'll see!

Go Go, Go Carefully

*Sirens blare, lights flash* ATTENTION! Gomez has a new CD coming out March 31. For those of you who don't know, Gomez is one of the most awesome bands ever, from England. If you don't know them - you should get to know them. Start here - they're giving a free download of a song from their new album. Go Go, Go Carefully and download it here: http://www. gomeztheband. com/

The coffee cup to the left...well, I needed a picture of the day. This is Anna's new coffee cup. It does not leak. The insulation is still inside the cup. It doesn't have a handle. On Friday night Michelle mentioned that she and the posse (my words, not hers!) hated seeing Anna drink out of her broken cup, so she bought Anna a new one - wow, that was really nice! I think her ulterior motive was that combined Anna and I have spilled no less than 4 times in class. So maybe they thought Anna was totally to blame for all of those. Haha, just kidding - but I thought it was funny that she did indeed bring a new cup for her. Yay! I'm pretty content with my spill-resistant owl cup. Even if it is 1/2 the size of a normal carafe.

learning in the form of torture

I've said it before; I'll say it again: I hate talking on the phone. Not sure what it is - I just don't like it. Anna and I worked on a project for Peds yesterday, and it involved not only talking on the phone with an occupational therapist (who I really really appreciate taking the time out of his schedule to talk to us) but also he wanted us to learn more so he asked us questions - to which I really didn't know the answer. (Luckily he was really nice about it - just trying to get us to do some critical thinking!) About 50 minutes in, Anna's phone died. Ahhhhhhh! Luckily we finished up the conversation with some really good info about our case study, so we should be able to make it work.
Then Mark and I watched Stepbrothers, although it might be time for a new DVD player - we had to switch to the computer about 75% of the way through b/c the DVD kept skipping...but I don't think it was the DVD's fault because every movie seems to do that these days. Anyway - still funny! See it!

Everything deserves a second chance

...even food.

Mark and I were planning on going to see the Semifinals perform at the Prophet, but first we had dinner with his parents and the Zimmerman's at Papasitos in Richardson. I had some sort of chicken taco things, but I didn't finish them, so I took them to go. Also at this restaurant I got to witness some really bad parenting - yay! By the time we were leaving I started not feeling great...then we got home, and I felt really sick. So we didn't end up going to the show. BOOOO! I do have their EP CD (autographed by the talented Mr. Aaron, one of my trivia team-members in crime) and it's really good, so y'all should check them out!

As for second tries...I did go ahead and eat the leftovers. It was fine - so what made me sick will be a mystery, I guess. The story of my life!

The Wicked Underlings (represent!)

Yesterday was long, but not so bad - I ended up getting to school at 7:10 (OMG early for once!) after dropping by Starbucks. I felt bad getting coffee for me, so I grabbed another one for Courtney, who also had to be at school really early. As it turned out, everything was kind of up in the air anyway, and I ended up doing random duties like making copies, signing CEU forms and helping set up tables. I went to one session - (2 if you count the main lecture) about Yoga in treatment - it was pretty cool and I can see the benefits. Once everything was done, we went to Sherlocks and met up with Luke and Anna - and were quickly joined by lots of people from school, which was a huge surprise! It was a lot of fun and hopefully we can do it again this semester - it just helped put things in perspective and calm everyone down!
Some of my favorite lines from yesterday:
Leandra (doing a transfer on me): Open your legs.

Me: Haha, you can't just say that!
Leandra: Oh, right. Hi, my name is Leandra, and I'm your occupational therapist. Open your legs.
"She's not scary - that's just her face!"

I hate technology

I was in a really bad mood today - like, whoa, stay away from me. Then I got home and ate something and I was ok, so maybe it's just that I was hungry and grouchy, then! Could be that I was taking Jenn and Judy to the airport for their trip to Angelfire. Or maybe that Jenn decided yesterday that she's taking my dream trip to Greece while I get to rot away in Summer school. It could have also been the 45 minute battle with the computer/DVD after class until I found out it was the computer, not the DVD... or maybe just the fact that I have to be at school for over 12 hours tomorrow being nice and sucking up and trying to stay awake. Maybe I just need a weekend to cool off! I am very much looking forward to Saturday (lounging around with Hubby!). Hope I can make it until then!

I'm gracious in victory, losers!

Once again, we are the champions, my friends. We took a 9.5 point lead over second place, which only had a .5 lead over third, which only had a 1 pt lead over 4th. So we pretty much dominated, even without getting the points for the team name. Ours was "No wonder Michael Phelps ate 12,000 calories a day - he had the munchies" I believe this win puts us at 3 wins out of 5 in 2009, which basically makes us the BWPG of Dallas.

That's all from my front - hopefully something interesting will happen in the next few days :)

I don't speak kinsiology

Today was a loooong day, but I survived! I got my fieldwork placement (somewhere in Richardson), and had an interview with the assistants in the OT office for a position helping with random stuff around OT land. I was all set to take the Gold's job (and excited, too!) until I found out the training is Monday mornings - which would mean I have to miss 2 group classes. They weren't willing to work with me at all (corporate, not the branch I was hired at), so I told them I couldn't take the job and to let me know if anything changes. Boooo! But a job at school would be good, too - makes things much easier!

Onto the good stuff: I get about 3 Victoria's Secret catalogs a week - yes, they are single-handedly destroying the earth. I suspect I also get 2-3 VS catalogs at each of the former addresses I have held, as well. Anyway, I usually thumb through and look for good deals, but occasionally I'll come across a picture that makes me wonder what the hell the photographer was thinking. The first one, "D", features a model who looks like she may have just been shown her new puppy being beaten. Or maybe she's thinking, "what's that awful smell? Is it me?" Or maybe someone just offered her money for sex and she's offended.

The second one is better, in my opinion. Seriously, I have no idea how this one made the catalog. The girl looks like she's been doing back breaking labor all day (as in, "Ooooh, my back!") and also maybe received an electric shock at some point, which ruined her hair. The lighting is awful - her skin looks like cookie dough! Even sexy lingerie won't save this picture.

I'm never eating at this location again!

Today was a slow day, so here are some random facts about me:

- When I was a kid I wanted to be a wedding coordinator. I used to buy bridal magazines and make up entire imaginary weddings. I saw an ad for this place and thought it would be the coolest honeymoon EVER.
- The more I learned about airplanes in Physics, the more I believed that magic makes them fly. I keep thinking at some point the plane I'm on is going to realize, "Wait, I can't fly!"
-I still have a baby tooth. There wasn't a permanent tooth under it, so it's just kind of hanging out. This is a genetic thing that I got from my dad's side. However, my gums are receding on the roots, and supposedly it's going to fall out soon. I'm supposed to go to the oral surgeon to get it replaced with an implant, but I can't for awhile because insurance won't pay for it.
- If there was ever any doubt that my parents were in fact my parents, you can look at me and tell - my mom and dad are definitely my biological mom and dad!
- I'm pretty sure a lot of people in my OT class don't really like me, but I don't know why. I guess that's their loss.
- When I was little, my favorite colors were purple and pink. My sister's was yellow. For some reason my parents painted my sister's room pink, and mine yellow. I did get lavender blinds, though.
- My room also had horrible green, brown and orange wallpaper on the CEILING. It was there when they moved in, and when we were selling the house my dad painted over it. I don't know why he didn't do that in the first place!
- I constantly disprove Darwin - if he was really really right, I would have died about 15 times now.
- I believe in evolution and the Bible. If God created us to adapt, why not evolve? He can do anything!
- On November 4, 2008 I was both proud of and disappointed in America. Proud that we did something I thought might not ever happen, and disappointed in the reactions of some people.
- My first college roommate had a crush on then-undiscovered James Franco. Every time I see him in a movie, I think of her!
- I get really obsessed with things for awhile, then drop them and never look back. For example, TV shows: Jeff Corwin, Trading Spaces, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, What Not to Wear (although I do still watch this one from time to time)... there are a bunch like that.
- I don't have a favorite color, really.
- My sister trained me well - I much prefered to watch her play Ninetendo rather than play myself!
- I can't stand things touching my ears. Seriously, you may think it's funny to touch them just to see, but you WILL get punched. I can't defend my actions if ears are involved :)
- In the summer if I've been wearing flip flops I can't get into bed until I have washed my feet.

Puppy foul - unnecessary ruffness!

Yesterday the big game was intense, but the Beagle ended up with the last touchdown FTW.

The kitty halftime show did leave some things to be desired, though. :)

We saw the movie Taken yesterday - it was kinda dumb, but it was at least entertaining. There were some annoying characters in it.

Not much else happened yesterday, although I did see this written on a wall behind EZ's.
